A love letter to the women building from scratch
By Caron Proctor
I didn’t set out to become a coach.
I was already doing the work — holding space for women, helping them untangle life, find clarity, rebuild confidence — long before I had a business card to go with it.
But when I moved to New Zealand, something shifted. I couldn’t land a job.
Not even for roles I could’ve done blindfolded.
I didn’t feel like my experience was welcomed or embraced.
Apart from a wee stint working for Annah Stretton, I felt like my stellar career history was worthless.
I found myself in a place that felt boxed in.
Limited.
Blocked.
Like my potential had been quietly parked.
Hilary Devey once said, “If I’d waited for a green light, I’d still be sat in the layby.”
And that stuck with me.
Because waiting for permission to step up is a trap that keeps so many of us stuck.
So instead of shrinking, I built something from that fire.
👊🏼 I created what I couldn’t find.
I launched my coaching business — heart-led, deeply human, and grounded in truth.
From there, I created TRIBE, which evolved into HERA — a sisterhood space where women rise without drama, without small talk, and without playing small.
Then came HERstory — a platform for real women to tell real stories. Transformational talks that connect us. Because we’re all walking stories — and when we speak them out loud, we heal, empower, and rise.
Steven Bartlett talks about turning trauma into teacher — how our wounds become wisdom and the foundation for our greatest impact.
That’s exactly what I believe.
Your story — the hard parts, the ugly bits, the moments you wanted to quit — are your secret power.
💡 I’ve been inspired along the way by three bold voices:
Hilary Devey – for her fire and refusal to wait for anyone’s approval.
Steven Bartlett – for his honest reflections and the courage to be vulnerable in leadership.
Marie Forleo – for reminding us all that everything is figureoutable.
I didn’t just listen to them — I let their words shift something in me.
And I blended that insight with my own voice, my own lived story, my own knowing.
💬 So if you’re a woman in startup mode — here’s what I want you to know:
You don’t need a flawless business plan. You just need to start.
You don’t have to wait to be chosen. Choose yourself.
You can be glam and gritty, bold and soft, clear and uncertain — and still be brilliant.
Your story is not a weakness. It’s your most powerful asset.
📝 Try asking yourself:
What do I already know how to do that others need right now?
Where have I been underestimating my own value?
What could I create if I stopped waiting for the green light?
I built a coaching business when no one was hiring me.
I built TRIBE and HERA when I felt alone.
I built HERstory because I believe in the transformational power of real women speaking real truth.
If you’re feeling stuck, boxed in, or overlooked, maybe this is your sign to stop circling the idea.
And start.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Just enough faith in yourself to take the next brave step.
Because your HERstory isn’t waiting to be found.
It’s waiting to be written by you.
Ready to start writing your own HERstory?
Helping women do exactly what I did — turn frustration into freedom, doubt into action, and stories into power — that’s what I do best.
If you’re ready to build boldly and step fully into your power, let’s connect.
