Standing Your Ground Can Look Like This...

I’ve learned there’s a huge difference between standing my ground and getting defensive.
Standing my ground feels calm. Clear. Grounded. Defensive feels like suddenly becoming a lawyer in a courtroom drama nobody cast me in 😂
It’s the rapid explaining, over-justifying, emotionally building a 47-slide PowerPoint in the shower, trying to prove I’m a good person.
Real strength is softer than I thought it was.
Real strength is staying soft in the places life tried to harden you.
It’s being able to challenge something, disagree with someone, or say “that doesn’t sit right with me” without turning into a bully, a persecutor, or abandoning yourself to keep the peace.
And honestly, I’m a Sheffield girl made of steel… so when I say “standing my ground,” I mean it powered by Sheffield steel, no frills, cups of tea, pots of coffee, broken biscuits, and yes… always making crumbs on my top like it’s part of the outfit 😄
My daily life looks like: 20-minute steamy showers with four different vanilla, cinnamon, and sandalwood body products, taking me on a full luxury spa experience. Bowie or synths on. 80s eyeliner attempting commitment (it’s a lie). Sheffield-made lightning bolt earrings from Chapel Walk ( In Sheff ) are giving me the I am still here energy.
Then there's the hot buttered toast, coffee, and a rebellious, too-fast walk like I definitely have my life together (I do not!).
And if you’ve ever done that “I’m fine” walk while internally untangling your entire life… welcome. You’re in good company.
We’re all just slightly organised chaos in cool shoes.
I often get asked if I’m “ok” when I post things like this. And I laugh. I am more than ok. I’m not speaking from a wound, I’m speaking from a scar. I’m sharing what I’ve lived through in a way that now helps me help others.
If this resonates, I feel you! We are probably related, in fact, aren't we all made of the same stardust?
Soft heart. Solid boundaries. That’s the sweet spot ✨
Don’t stay hard in a world where softness gives you flex, helps you flow, helps you pivot, and helps you say: “hmm… maybe we’ll do it differently.”We may even rebel. Go on… I dare you 😄
Love and long, steamy, fragrant showers
